Ballet for Topanga students final pose during the Flowers dance in Nutcracker.

The Nutcracker

"Sherry Jason, a dancer from the age of four, teacher from the age of 11, and practicing attorney founded 'Ballet for Topanga' school, the mainstay for classical dance in Topanga, after she and her husband Bob moved here in 1979. In 1981 she retired from the full-time practice of law to divide her time between law and the arts. That year she produce the first annual Topanga Nutcracker Ballet. Shortly before Christmas each year Topangans see 45 of their friends and neighbors aged three to 61 perform the classic at the Community House—staged, choreographed, and designed by Ms. Jason and friends. 'It's such a celebration of family,' says Sherry, who cites dozens of extended families working thousands of hours onstage and off to support the production. Their daughter Juliet appeared each year in the Nutcracker since she was one month old. 'People from all over tell me what a wonderful, sweet Nutcracker it is.'"
